2026 February

Video conference etiquette

If we allow a little bit of time and energy before we are on camera, we would look a lot more professional.  Let me put it into points:

Preparation:

  • Background neutral, even dull; focus should be on you, not your pictures in the background
  • Clothing nice, no pyjamas
  • Hair combed
  • Turn off music
  • Turn off your telephone
  • Shut door
  • Be on time or a few minutes early

During the conversation:

  • Face should be right in the middle of the lens, place well lit
  • Make sure sound and connection is perfect
  • If at all possible don’t turn away from the camera
  • Don’t talk to your pet
  • Don’t use telephone
  • Be as natural as you can.
