2026 June

Just last week I talked to an elderly gentleman and his wife. They were appalled that people leave their baseball caps on during dinner in restaurants.

Surely you take your hat off when you go to a place of worship, opera, concert – but in a restaurant?  Not just the teenagers. Fathers too.  Take it off. Show some respect for the establishment. One family at a time.  Now that summer is approaching, think of where you are going to put it, hang it on the back of your chair, lay it beside you if you are in a booth, or just plain leave it in your car.

What people are saying on One Cup of Coffe:

Excellent, to-the-point observation and lesson.

In today’s frenetic, pressurized world, we’ve mostly stopped being PP: polite and patient. That’s a long term shame, because we’re allowing the new world to erase  the elegant manners of the vanishing old world.

If only we all carried on the good manners and human kindness of your Egyptian restaurant host.

Thank you for the newsletter. Yes kindness and politeness goes a long way. A good lesson.

Trish

You continue to write very good stuff.

Keep up the good work.

Don Flynn

Keep up the good work.

Thank you for sharing such a lovely story.  Customer service is so important!  Sometimes in the supermarket we find attendants who will go out of their way to show us the right aisle where we could find the product we needed.   Other times, they just point to the correct aisle, but finding that unique product is difficult.

As usual another nice article.  Although I don’t go downtown much anymore from what I’ve read I certainly would give him a tip.  I usually tip the server in the Restaurant where I frequent or if I use delivery and they’re prompt especially in the winter season.

Thank you for such an insightful experience! I walked in with very limited understanding of etiquette but left with a pocket full of knowledge. I’ve already began to incorporate some of your lessons into my personal & professional life. I will also be recommending your class to all of my peers!
